Four Trustees Installed on April 26, 2011

The Monroe Area Community Foundation elected four trustees in April.   Jamie Pierce, a former Monroe School board member,  and Ernie Howard, a former city sheriff,  are returning to their current positions as grant and distribution chair and president.   Newly elected trustees are Diane Wilson and Kevin Taylor.  Diane is a retired Monroe teacher and counselor. She is part of the organization's new Strategic Planning Committee.   Kevin is the foundation's new treasurer.   He is employed as an attorney with LexusNexus.  Kevin and his wife, Colleen, have three sons,  two of which attend Monroe Primary.

The Monroe Area Community Foundation is a nonprofit, 501 (c) 3 charitable organization.  Our mission is to seek and receive donations, invest for growth, and make charitable and civic contributions to enhance the welfare of individuals and groups in the Monroe area.  To read more information about us, visit our website at www.monroefoundation  or phone John Singleton at 513 478-8112.

CHUCK SOULE PRESENTED 12TH CORNERSTONE AWARD

Chuck Soule

A highlight of every Monroe Area Community  Foundation's  annual meeting is the announcement of the winner of the Cornerstone Award.  It is presented to "a person, persons or a group who/which has displayed an unselfish use of time or money for the betterment of the Monroe community."  On April 26, 2011, Executive Director John Singleton bestowed this year's  12th Cornerstone Award to Charles "Chuck" Soule.

John said Chuck, who is employed as the facilities director at Monroe Junior/Senior Schools, has left a legacy of buildings and masonry in Monroe and Whispering Oaks.   This includes the high school Victory Bell stand and construction and maintenance of the Community Sign.   In addition, Mr. Soule has positively touched the lives of over two generations of Monroe High School students by working with them in both athletics and extracurricular activities.

Mr. Singleton presented Chuck with a personal plaque naming him the recipient of this award.  A permanent plaque with Mr. Soule's name inscribed on it will be permanently displayed in the James Monroe Community Room in the city building.

February 18, 2011, Basket Raffle Winners

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the Monroe Area Community Foundation's Second Annual Lasagna Dinner and Basket Raffle on February 18. Congratulations to the following basket winners: Diane Wilson, Movie Night; Tim Izor, Go, Play, Eat; John Singleton, Life is a Bean; Susan Combs, Monroe Spirit Wear; Alex Hall, Teams; and Elaine Garver, Winter Fun.

"High fives" to the Hornets for their big victory over Franklin. What a way to finish off the season on Seniors' Night. Good luck in the tournament starting Friday.

Big Night Out

On Friday, Feb. 18, the Monroe Hornets play the Franklin High School Wildcats, the Ohio State Buckeye Football Helmet winner is drawn, and the Monroe Area Community Foundation raffles six baskets while serving a Lasagna Dinner from 4:30-7:00.  Menu is meat or vegetable lasagna, with salad and breadstick, drink and dessert. Preceding the varsity game is senior night for all of the winter sports participants. There certainly is plenty to do, so you might have to sit down and make out a schedule to catch it all.

Remember, it all starts at 4:30, with the freshman basketball team taking on the Wildcats. If you're watching that game, then go to the Lasagna Dinner after purchasing another set of raffle tickets on your way to the cafeteria.

Attending the Junior Varsity game? You can eat and buy either before or after the game. Of course, come early to the varsity game to eat, drink, buy and be setting in the bleachers ready for the pregame introduction of the Hornet Seniors, some playing for their last time in the HORNET GYMNASIUM.

And you get to hear one of the best Basketball Announcers in the Area (that would be me).

You’ve got a week to plan and make arrangements. Everyone should be there, and we always run into someone we haven’t seen for awhile. So, I’ll just finish by saying:  BE THERE!!!!

For more info contact Gina at 513-623-0874.

(All monies collected from raffles and dinners go to provide scholarships and grants for Monroe students and the Community of Monroe)

John Singleton thanks Monroe families for Breakfast with Santa

John Singleton at Santa Breakfast

Just wanted to give a big shout out and say THANKS to all the families that came out for Breakfast with Santa. For our first time, we were very happy with the turnout and support; but we also saw how we can do it even bigger and better next year. Just the smiles on all the kids faces made it very heartwarming and made this old Grinch smile himself. So this is wishing you all a great holiday season, and may Santa bring you what you wish for this year. Thanks Monroe, you are GREAT.
